Sediment Nitrate Dissimilatory Reduction Processes along a Salinity Gradient in an Estuarine and Coastal Wetland, China

چکیده

Nitrate (NO3−) dissimilatory reduction processes (denitrification, anammox and NO3− to ammonium (DNRA)) in estuarine coastal ecosystems play a crucial role regulating reactive nitrogen loadings. However, nitrate process rates relative proportions along the salinity gradient remain poorly understood. Here, denitrification, DNRA were explored simultaneously Yangtze Estuary based on isotope-tracing experiments. Measured range of 2.33–28.21 nmol g−1 h−1, 0.43–1.87 h−1 0.28–0.74 respectively, with large spatio-temporal variation. The changes these mainly affected by TOC, TN, NH4+ NOx− concentrations, rather than related functional gene abundance. Denitrification dominated total (67.52 93.85%), while (3.67 25.01%) (2.48 11.21%) also played substantially important reduction. denitrification gross high-salinity areas generally lower those freshwater, but opposite was true for DNRA. Overall, our study reported simultaneous observation estuary highlighted that sediment environmental variables human activities can alter distribution patterns processes.

Seasonal variation in denitrification and dissimilatory nitrate reduction to ammonia process rates and corresponding key functional genes along an estuarine nitrate gradient

This research investigated spatial-temporal variation in benthic bacterial community structure, rates of denitrification and dissimilatory nitrate reduction to ammonium (DNRA) processes and abundances of corresponding genes and transcripts at three sites-the estuary-head, mid-estuary and the estuary mouth (EM) along the nitrate gradient of the Colne estuary over an annual cycle. Denitrification...

Denitrifier community composition along a nitrate and salinity gradient in a coastal aquifer.

Nitrogen flux into the coastal environment via submarine groundwater discharge may be modulated by microbial processes such as denitrification, but the spatial scales at which microbial communities act and vary are not well understood. In this study, we examined the denitrifying community within the beach aquifer at Huntington Beach, California, where high-nitrate groundwater is a persistent fe...

Soil salinity and nutrients pattern along a distance gradient in coastal region

Soil salinity is considered as one of the major challenges in coastal agriculture in Bangladesh yet geographical extent of soil salinity and nutrients status have received little or no attention. This study investigated the patterns of soil salinity, total nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium and sulfur between agricultural and fallow land along a 90 km distance from the coastline in Noakhali, Bang...

Coastal Microbial Mat Diversity along a Natural Salinity Gradient

The North Sea coast of the Dutch barrier island of Schiermonnikoog is covered by microbial mats that initiate a succession of plant communities that eventually results in the development of a densely vegetated salt marsh. The North Sea beach has a natural elevation running from the low water mark to the dunes resulting in gradients of environmental factors perpendicular to the beach. These grad...

Long-term patterns of an estuarine pathogen along a salinity gradient

Parasitic, disease-causing pathogens can exert strong control over marine populations yet few long-term studies exist that describe these relationships. Understanding the connections to longterm large-scale processes relative to local short-term processes should facilitate better planning for disease impacts in the management of marine resources. We describe a 21-yr dataset of dermo disease (Pe...
